Community Pancake Party

photo of stack of pancakesJoin us on Shrove Tuesday for a community pancake party.

We'll be having a flippin' good time in the meeting room between 11 am and 2 pm. Everyone's welcome to join us, you don't need to be a regular at All Saints.

Our friends at the Gill Bent Road Co-op are going to help us with the ingredients to whip up a big bowl of batter...and we'll have a wide selection of pancake toppings from which you can choose.

Please send us an email to let us know you'll be dropping in...and don't forget to let us know if you have any allergies or dietary needs. There's also a sign-up list at the back of church.

Why we have pancake day

Long ago, Christians traditionally used up all the eggs and fat they had in store by making pancakes and feasting on them. This was because when Lent came, they would eat less food, or even fast  to help them focus on God and not on the things they wanted. This tradition has been passed down the generations. So Shrove Tuesday is one last chance for a big party before Lent begins with Ash Wednesday the next day.
