Week of Prayer for Christian Unity - 18 to 25 January

For decades churches of different denominations have been celebrating what unites them rather than what divides them. Most areas now have a local Churches Together Group where Christians from the different churches meet to share fellowship, worship, and mission. We respect our diversity and give thanks for our unity.

Churches Together in Cheadle Hulme involves the Methodist, Roman Catholic, Society of Friends, Baptist, United Reformed, and Anglican (C of E) traditions. It is a great privilege to listen to each other and experience different ways of worship and being a church.

We feel that it is vitally important that we continue to work together to show God’s love in our community and the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an annual reminder of the gift of Unity. Each year Churches Together in Britain and Ireland produce material for all the Churches Together groups to follow together and in their respective churches. This year the theme is justice.

“Material for 2019 originates from the churches of Indonesia, where there is a strong emphasis upon the need for unity alongside the nation’s ethnic and religious diversity. The resources also highlight issues of economic injustice and how religious pluralism can face challenges in the face of radicalisation” (CTBI website)

This and many other issues local, nationwide and worldwide are areas where together we can provide a powerful force for change.

There is more information about the issues and projects which Churches Together in Britain and Ireland is involved in on its website. If you would like to get involved, please contact me (by email or on 0161 485 3455) or your local minister.
